I was think about this one day while I was in church during a lent service. It was the same week as the infamous health-care bill was passed by congress. Inside I was mad as hell about how our politicians trampled over the constitution and our political process all in the name of "progress".
Then I thought about how Jesus was treated. People told lies about him, mistreated him, bribed "friends of his" to turn on him. People who were against him, knew how to manipulate the political system against him in order to get their way. Other politicians tried to get out of making a decision by putting the decision on others (Pilate had "the people choose" who they wanted released even though he knew who "should be released"). And yet, up on the cross while people were still taunting him and trying to get him to say something bad back to them, Jesus says "Father forgive them, for they know NOT what they do".
I don't know if these politicians are knowingly destroying the system we have in this country or not. I don't know if they are "fools" or "evil genius's" but whatever their purpose, I refuse to hate them back. Instead of hating them, I pity them. What pathetic empty lives these people have who spend all their time, energy and money to destroy something as wonderful as FREEDOM. I find it ironic that these people (Obama, Reid and Pelosi) probably think that most of America wants to be them. When in fact, I think most of America despises them and what they stand for. I pity them also because I know the end of this story. I know that all that they do will in the end all be for naught. For my hope is not in the Constitution, but instead is in God and HIS salvation he has made possible through Jesus death and resurrection. That is REAL HOPE FOR THE AGES. Not Obama's picture put on a poster and painted with red, white and blue colors.
It makes me think of the movie "Ghost". In the movie, people who are "bad" get dragged off by these nasty black spirits to hell. In the end of the movie, the bad guy (who is Patrick Swayze's friend) dies when a window falls and cuts into him. Patrick Swayze realizes what's about to happen and feels pity for his friend for he knows what awaits him. That is how I feel about our leaders today who have lied, cheated, bribed, extorted, manipulated and broken promises all to "win". It looks like they have won, but we know the end of the movie and we know what awaits them.
Therefore I do not hate them (that would be to come DOWN to their level), but instead I pity them as I would a drug addict who is hooked on Meth. For they too are addicted, but instead they are addicted to the drug of power and politics and it (like Meth) blinds them to their true nature and to their true situation. Like the Meth-addict who looks at themselves in the mirror and sees a handsome, well groomed "sexy" person, but in reality their face is full of sores with oozing puss, their eyes are yellow and their teeth are rotting out of their mouths. These people cannot see what we see and therefore they are not to be hated, but instead should be pitied.
So go ahead Mr. President. Sign your bill. Put your name in some history books. It will all be gone in the end.
