It's 1776 All Over Again!

Well as Yogi Berra once said, "It's De-ja-vu all over again!".    Here we are 233 years later and we are again at war with the powers in high places who have little regard for law or for our concerns.   When they need our votes we are "concerned and involved citizens" but after they are elected and we don't like their proposals we are "ASTROTURF!"

And not much has changed from 1776 either.  King George looked at people from across the ocean as indentured servants who he could tax at will, put in prison at will and terrorize at will.  He (and Parliament) put never ending taxes on the people that they thought were justified in order to pay for their "protection" from other countries.   The tea tax were also used to make non-British tea more expensive and force the colonists to buy only British tea.  People who got out of line were ordered to appear in court in Britain and could find themselves held over their waiting for their trial for months and even years with no resolution while their businesses back home went under.  King George also destroyed printing presses of newspapers that were "hostile to the crown" and he also paid other newspapers who were "loyal".  King George took away peoples rights to their properties and forced them to house (and feed) soldiers sent their for their "protection" but were really "foot soldiers" put there to put down any uprising at a moments notice.

Today, we have an "FCC diversity czar" who is bent on limiting free speech (he sees it as over rated) using "diversity" as his front argument to disguise his true intentions.  We also have an administration that is closely tied to GE which also happens to own 3 major news networks and funding them indirectly for their "loyalty to the crown".  Also, the Obama administration wants to tax "health-care" benefits to pay for the government health-care system.  Of course as time goes on the government can increase the taxes to make their competition look worse and worse and force more and more of us onto the government plan (Sounds like King Georges Tea Tax to me).  Today,  we are paying tax money to groups like ACORN who are none other than "foot soldiers" who are loyal to Obama whom he can summon at a moments notice to put down any and all discenting voices.

But the similarities are not all negative either.  In 1776,  56 men challenged the government and signed the Declaration of Indpendence.   These small colonists took on the BIG machinery of King George and won!   How did the do this?

Importance of Media
They realized the importance of the media and winning the hearts and minds of the colonists.   Even back then 1/3 supported the movement (revolutionists), 1/3 were opposed (loyalists) and 1/3 could go either way (opportunists).  Today we have the same situation I believe.  We have 1/3 who want their government to be limited and founded on the Constitution.  1/3 don't care about the Constitution and want to "transform it" and 1/3 can go either way.   We need to win the hearts and minds of those caught in the middle.   We need to show a reasoned and rational approach to our protests.  We need to show that this has NOTHING to do with political parties (they are meaningless now).  We have seen how the town hall meetings have all but destroyed the "public option" and have shown people that they are not alone in their fears about government health-care.  For that is how the mainstream-media wants us to feel.  By only showing people who are FOR the public option they can make those who are against it feel along and out-numbered.   We need to see that this is NOT the case and that we are actually in the majority.  I find it funny that even Obama is distancing himself from the public-option saying that he made the mistake of letting Congress write the health-care bill and not taking a more active role in it.  Paraphase:  "Don't blame me!  I didn't write the bill!"

Size does not matter
The revolutionists decided that they were going to defeat the British on THEIR OWN ground-rules.  If that meant taking pot-shots from behind trees and rock walls then so be it even if the other side called them "cowards".   We too now see this working in our favor as well.  We have seen the videos of those 2 brave people who have trapped ACORN in their own corruption.  By posing as a prostitute looking for a loan to run a brothel, they used ACORN's own corruption against them.  They may have single handidly brought down one of the largest political organizations in history armed only with a hidden camera.  We need MORE of this.  We need people inside ACORN willing to expose the wickedness that has infested this group and is using black and other minority groups as 21st century slaves.   YouTube video was used to catch the "Green Czar" Van Jones and other radical czars and hang them with their own words.   We can't wait for a "60 Minutes" or a "20/20" to catch these guys (they have become meaningless zombies for the Obama administration anyway).  We have to do it ourselves.   We all need to become journalists and commentators.  This puts the other side at a disadvantage.   If all they have to do is watch Fox News to see what the other side is saying then they can put a head-on assault.  But if ALL of us are reporting and commentating and investigating, there are too many "fronts" to manage at once (no matter how many of us get "flagged" by the administration).

Passion DOES matter
The revolutionists also knew that God was on their side and their cause was just.  This fueled the passion needed to endure the long and difficult war (we forget that the war lasted over 5 years).   That passion would eventually overtake the "paid army of soldiers" sent from England to put down the fires of revolution.  We need to see that OUR passion is REAL and theirs is not.   We protest this government for honor and for truth and to return our country to its founding principles of freedom and the pursuit of happiness, while they do it for $8 an hour.  You can't manufacture that passion.  You can't bottle it and sell it.  It's either there or its not.   We stand with hand-made-signs made with feeling and concern.  They stand with pre-stamped-manufactured signs that all say the same thing because they don't know why they are there.   The other side will try to paint us as "astroturf" and as paid hacks for the GOP but we know who were are.

We need to take notes from the 1776 Revolution and apply them to our problems today as very, very little has changed.   Elitists have taken over our government and view us with disdain and apathy.  They see us as sheep that need to be "nudged" (in reference to Cass Susteins book) to behave in ways they want us to rather than as a free people who can look out for thier own self and collective interests without the need of a nanny-state.
