How to end a "divided nation"

We are often told today that the U.S. is a divided nation and that depending on which half is in power, the other half feels anger and dismissed and so the game of ping-pong-politics takes place pitting one side against the other.  Yet that is not how its supposed to be here in America.  But why has that come about?   I believe it is because we have lost sight of the fact we are the United "States" of America.  We were supposed to have 50 unique and differing states held together by a Constitution and a common set of ideals.  We are not the Nation of America, but the United "States" of America. It was the ability of our country to supply locations to its people where EVERYONE found a home that meet their individual needs and beliefs.

Do you want to smoke pot?  Go to California.
Do you want a nanny state that will take care of you from cradle to grave?  Go to New York.
Do you want to be left the hell alone?  Move to Montana or Texas.

In the end we all end up happy with where we are at and have more control over our lives.  But that is not what we have today.  Today, the federal government has reached well beyond its limits in Constitution (one even wonders if they think there are ANY limits at all these days) and has in effect "nationalized" all the states in such a way they are all the same.

Same drug laws.
Same business laws.
Same tax laws.
Same regulations
Same Same Same SAME!

One begins to feel "trapped" with no where to go and therefore the anger and frustration (on either side of the aisle) builds up and up. We need to get back to our founding principals of individual freedom at both the personal and the state levels.  You be you and I will be me.

You can mistreat your own body however you please... just don't come to me looking for help to fix the problems you have incured in the process.

You can be as foolish with your money and your finances as you please.... don't come to me looking for a handout because the creditors are knocking on the door.

You can "marry" whoever you please.... just don't expect me to attend your wedding and attend your church.

But when it comes to areas that the States have no control over, they should not be overstepping their boundaries either.

Should they allow illegal immigrants the right to vote?  NO!
Should they restrict a person's right to own a gun (against the 2nd ammendment)  NO!
Should they prevent people in their state from buying something from another state  NO!

We need to get back to a STATE run government where all of our citizens are afforded the freedom to live as they wish and thereby UNITE ourselves and become ONE NATION again.
